Faison Releases Statement on Library, Senior Center

The Town of Winthrop will continue to provide services from the Library and Council on Aging Departments, as it has during the entire  Covid-19 Public Health Emergency. The physical buildings themselves will remain closed to the public, as they have been since March 20th, out of an abundance of caution for the health and well-being of the community.

We are having internal discussions with the unions concerning the staff within the departments. Those discussions are exploring furloughs and layoffs.

During this unique time, we are exploring different ways that these departments can provide services to the community. Kathy Dixon and Matt Rhodes are available to provide the senior community with any help that they may need. Diane Wallace and Mary Lou Osborne are working to set up virtual summer reading for all ages and are exploring drop off and pick up options.

This is about keeping the community safe. Many people like to congregate in these buildings and talk with one another. We will continue to provide services for the community on behalf of the Winthrop Public Library and the Robert A. DeLeo Senior Center. We look forward to the date when we can safely open these buildings to the public again.
