ATC Playground Progress Underway, Structures to Be Ordered Soon

The playground team and school committee members will be making the final decisions regarding the play structure that will be constructed at the Arthur T. Cummings School. The structure has been removed and disposed of and the surrounding area is currently fenced off. The playground team (Norah J. Grimes- ATC Principal, Andrea O’Leary-Assistant Principal, Nicole Gregory – Teacher, Jennifer Dobbins – Parent, ELizabeth Donovan-PT, Richard Lawton – Project Manager) has had several meetings with Ultiplay Parks and Playgrounds, and are currently in discussion over the budget and deciding on a play structure that will meet the needs of the students and allow for inclusive play and accessibility.

“Inclusive play and accessibility are important because we don’t want students to have to go to separate places to play and the structure needs to be enticing for all students to play in all areas,” said School Superintendent, Lisa Howard.

With a goal of making it playable for all students, the team has narrowed the choice down to two structures and a decision will be made early next week. Staying in line with the school theme, the colors of the structure will be blue and gold. The next step will be to move into the ordering phase and discuss potential installation dates.
