Winthrop Public Library Releases August Schedule of Events

Check out what’s happening at the Winthrop Public Library in August! Our programs are always free.

We will have summer hours until September.

Tuesday, August 6 and 20, 11:30 a.m. : Tech Drop-In – Afternoon Sessions

and

Tuesday, August 13 and 27, 5:30 p.m. : Tech Drop-In – Evening Sessions

On Tuesdays, we offer free basic computer help and assistance with library resources. Come by and work with staff on: basic computer skills, ereaders and mobile devices, web searching, email, library resources (Overdrive, Gale Databases, Ancestry.com, and more). Wednesday, August 7, 10:30 a.m. : Mystery Book Club

Mystery Book Club’s summer meeting will be about The Late Show by Michael Connelly.

Teens and Tweens

Thursday, August 1, 11:30 a.m. : Escape Room

Children entering grades 6 and above are welcome to try to escape the spaceship. Registration required. Limited to 10 participants.

Wednesday, August 14, 1:30 p.m. : Science Magic with the Museum of Science

Museum scientists will help us explore how magic tricks really work. You might learn how to defy gravity or how to make a balloon fireproof.

Thursday, August 15, 11:30 a.m. : Teen Trivia

Test your useless knowledge against your friends for a chance at eternal glory!

Thursday, August 22, 11:30 a.m. : Sphero Challenge

Try your hand at driving a Sphero through a challenging maze!

Thursday, August 29, 2 p.m. : End of Summer Ice Cream Social

Join us in celebrating the end of the summer with an ice cream social! Celebrate your hard work with ice cream.

Kids

Friday, August 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 10:30 a.m. : Storytime – Infants & Toddlers

and

Friday, August 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, 11:30 a.m. : Storytime – Preschoolers

Storytime is every Friday in the Children’s Room.

Monday, August 5, 12, 19, and 26, 10:30 a.m.: Toddler Craft Time

Toddlers can join us every Monday for a craft project.

Tuesday, August 6, 13, 20, and 27, 3:00 p.m. : Kids Create Club

A hands-on activity time for children on Tuesdays after-school. Open to grades 3-6.

Wednesday, August 7, 14, 21, and 28, 10:30 a.m.: Little Wiggles

Clap your hands, stomp your feet & wiggle with the beat! This is a high-energy music and movement program where your children will be wiggling and giggling throughout. Ages 2-5 years.

Wednesday, August 7, 14, 21 and 28, 3 p.m.: Pokémon and Lego Club

Both clubs meet every week in the summer.

Wednesday, August 14, 1:30 p.m. : Science Magic with the Museum of Science
