Officials Cut the Ribbon for the Public Boat Launch

The rain didn’t stop town officials and guests from coming out to celebrate the official ribbon cutting ceremony of the public boat launch at the Town Landing Tuesday evening.

“This boat launch will help us activate the waterfront of Winthrop and will hopefully draw economic activity to the town,” said Town Manager Austin Faison during the opening remarks. “We will happily welcome the public to Winthrop to use the launch and enjoy nice weekends all summer long.”

While the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the near $1 million-dollar boat launch project was delayed a week due to weather, the project itself was right on time for the annual 4th of July activities. As one of the many long-term construction agreements from Provincetown to Williamstown, the new public boat launch was developed by the Department of Fish and Game. Out of the many projects in seaside communities across the Commonwealth, the Winthrop landing boat launch was one of the biggest, and the hope is to maintain the site for years to come.

“This particular project is one of the biggest,” said Department of Fish and Game Commissioner Don Amidon. “We are so pleased with MacKay construction for getting the project done ahead of time and it will be a priority to keep the site in tip-top shape so the public can utilize it for fishing and boating access for a long time.”
