The Winthrop High girls lacrosse team will open its 2019 season this afternoon (Thursday) when coach Ben Cimmino and his crew host Stoneham on the turf at Miller Field.

The Lady Vikings will be led by a quartet of captains, Emma Carleton, Emma Turner, Holly Vaccaro, and Gabby Ford.

Other members of the varsity roster are Devon Barry, Soneida Martinez Dalhquist, Gemma DiMento, Jenna Dorr, Maura Dorr, Caroline Earl, Grace Galuris, Miya Grein, Carolyn Kinsella, XhonaKokoneshi, Brianna Marley, Mia Martucci, Jouliette Millar, Ryan Parker, Emily Rodriguez, Kaiya Rodirguez, Carly Zinko, Annalise Love, and Emma Soch.

“We have have an extremely strong core of returners and a great group of underclassmen who are going to be big contributors,” said Cimmino, whose squad completed their pre-season schedule with a scrimmage against Melrose this past Friday. “Most importantly, the team is a very tight knit group that works well together. Our goal is to win an NEC title this season and this group can get it done.”

The Lady Vikings have a busy opening week. After today’s contest, they will host Danvers on Monday evening at 5:00; entertain Malden on Wednesday; and host Saugus next Thursday.
