North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra Embarks on 71st Season

Music Director Robert Lehmann returns from a six-month sabbatical leave to lead the North Shore Philharmonic Orchestra in its 71st concert season with a dynamic schedule filled with bold symphonies, stirring concerti, and much more.

Dr. Lehmann himself headlines the list of season soloists when he performs the Brahms Violin concerto in the Orchestra’s first concert on Nov. 18.

Dr. Lehmann’s sabbatical leave was devoted to learning the concerto, considered by many to be among the top three such masterpieces in classical music history.

Along with Brahm’s “first” the Orchestra will add a “7” in a nod to its 71st season when it plays Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony also on the November program.  Bella Bartok’s Romanian Folk Dances rounds out the November 18 program.

During the holiday season, the NSPO will travel to St. Anthony’s Church in Revere on Dec. 2, and then St. Richard’s Church in Danvers on Dec. 9 to play two Christmas-themed concerts.  Admission to both concerts is free but patrons are asked to bring a generous donation of non-perishable food to benefit local food pantries.

The NSPO’s regular season resumes Feb. 17, 2019, when trumpet soloist Joseph Foley plays the Hummel Trumpet concerto on a program that also features Dvorak’s “Slavonic Dances” and Robert Shumann’s Symphony No. 4.

The Orchestra’s “Spring” Concert on April 14, 2019 features Dmitri Shostakovich Ninth Symphony, along with music of Haydn, Gounod, and Balcolm.

The regular season concerts are held in Swampscott High School Auditorium at 3 p.m. Tickets are $30 at the door, $25 for seniors and students, and children 12 and under are admitted free.  A season subscription for all three concerts is available for the discounted price of  $75.   Complete ticket and concert information is available on the internet at www.nspo.org.
