Preparing Winthrop for Coastal Flooding and Climate Change

Winthrop Shore Drive work completed

All the major elements of the work on Winthrop Shore Drive and Highlands Park have been completed, approximately nine months ahead of schedule, saving months of construction disturbance for residents.  With the major items of construction completed, what remains is the “punch list” of minor items to be completed and minor repairs.  The following work items are ongoing along Winthrop Shore Drive.

These activities continue over the next two weeks.

Touch up work on walls and other miscellaneous “punch list” items will be addressed.

Items such as barrels and other contractor-related equipment will remain where needed to finish this work.

If necessary, detours and setups will be in place during working hours.

When necessary, police on site to help manage traffic.

Work hours:

6 am – 7 am for setups and detours

7 am – 3:30 pm for construction and

3:30 pm – 4:30 pm for safety breakdown of setups and any minor work to make the roadway and walkways safe for the public during the down time.

Parking restrictions will remain in place as posted to allow for construction activities.

Questions or concerns about the project should be directed to DCR Resident Engineer James Caputo, at the DCR trailer behind the DCR bathhouse on Winthrop Shore Drive, by visit or phone (617-846-1489) during regular business hours,  Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.   In case of an emergency, contact 911 or DCR’s 24/7 emergency hotline at the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency at 508-820-1428.

 

Reimbursement for Attending First-Time Homebuyer Course Available

The Malden Redevelopment Authority, on behalf of the North Suburban Consortium (NSC), is offering to reimburse Winthrop residents, up to $100, for the cost of attending a first-time homebuyer workshop.  The NSC serves Arlington, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Melrose, Revere, and Winthrop.

In recognition of their work to promote affordable housing and to provide first-time homebuyer financial assistance, the NSC received a contribution from Prime Lending. The NSC has decided to use this award to reimburse residents in the NSC communities who complete a first-time homebuyer pre-purchase, post-purchase, multi-family property owner/landlord or foreclosure prevention course between July 1, 2018 and June 30, 2019. Reimbursement is limited to up to $100 per household.

Chelsea Restoration Corporation, https://www.chelsearestoration.org will be holding first time home buyer classes on Oct. 6, 2018 and Oct. 13, 2018. For a list of first-time homebuyer courses, please visit CHAPA’s website at https://www.chapa.org.

Applicants requesting reimbursement can submit their completed application, proof of residency, payment, and course completion to Maureen Taylor at the Malden Redevelopment Authority, MTaylor@maldenredevelopment.com , or to Tanji Cifuni, tcifuni@town.winthrop.ma.us . Your reimbursement request may also be delivered to the Chelsea Department of Planning and Development, 500 Broadway Room 101, Chelsea, MA. Upon approval, residents will receive a reimbursement check mailed to their home address within eight weeks.
