Climate Change Forum on NOV. 14

The Friends of Belle Isle Marsh, Mothers Out Front and Air Inc., will sponsor a Forum “Local and State Leadership on Climate Change in the Trump Era” on Tuesday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Orient Heights Yacht Club in East Boston.  The speaker will be Emily Norton, Massachusetts Director of the Sierra Club, the largest and most influential grassroots environmental advocacy group in the country. On behalf of Sierra Club’s 60,000 members and supports across the Commonwealth, Emily lobbies for stronger policies and laws to protect our air, our water and our lands. Emily also serves as an elected city councilor in her hometown of Newton. Emily holds a BA in philosophy from the University of Vermont and a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School.

The Friends of Belle Isle Marsh is an environmental advocacy organization whose mission is to preserve and protect our saltmarsh, which is part of the state-designated Rumney Marsh Area of Critical Environmental Concern.  The non-profit Friends group was formed more than 30 years ago in response to the threat of development as an fuel off-loading facility.  One of today’s biggest threats to the fragile wetland is projected sea level rise in the next decade.  Mothers Out Front is building a powerful grassroots movement to ensure a swift, complete, and just transition away from fossil fuels and toward clean and renewable energy.   Mothers Out Front believes climate change is a real and grave threat to everything that mothers and all parents want for our children: health, security, a world of wonder, and a future with promise. Air, Inc. is a community-based non-profit which advocates for a healthy environment.  The group’s main concern is the health effects of Logan International Airport on local residents.

The forum is free and the public is invited to attend.
