FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE ATTIC FIRE

Winthrop firefighters were call to 80 Johnson Ave. for a house fire Friday evening, Jan. 29. Smoke and fire were observed in the attic and roof area. According to Fire Chief Paul Flanagan, the home had recently been purchased and work was being done. Earlier in the day a crew had been in applying foam insulation. Flanagan said as the foam expands it heats up and a gas develops. The combination caused the attic area to ignite.

FEB. 10 IS THE LAST DAY TO REGISTER FOR PRIMARY

Wednesday, Feb.10 will be the last day to register to vote or change party in the upcoming Presidential Primary election on Tuesday, March 1, 2016. The Town Clerk’s Office will be open on February 10, 2016 from 8 am to 8 pm for citizen convenience.

The only requirements to register to vote are that you are a citizen of the United States, a resident of Winthrop and will be 18 years old on or before Election Day. You may register in the Town Clerk’s Office, or register online at https://www.sec.state.ma.us/ovr/ Those registering to vote using mail-in registration forms must have their forms postmarked no later than February 10, 2016 in order to vote in the Election.
