Playground accessible to all

The Marianna Fabiano Playground at the Gorman-Fort Banks School was recently completed making the playground even more accessible to all students at the school. The improvements were a team effort, with a great deal of the work being accomplished by the Department of Public Works in cooperation with numerous others. Spearheaded by Jim Fabiano for his leadership and the tremendous job that he did, in cooperation with Sean Driscoll and Toni Boncore of the Parks and Recreation Department in fund raising and community involvement to get that project completed.

Ferry awaits its home

The new Winthrop ferry, the Valkyrie, is now scheduled to arrive sometime in mid-September. The construction of the vessel has progressed well and is nearing completion, however the boat builder is waiting for the ferry to be inspected and certified by the US Coast Guard before it can take its maiden voyage to Winthrop from Maryland. An announcement of the beginning of service to Boston will be made in the coming weeks. Town Manager James McKenna added that Boston Harbor Cruises has agreed to help with training and settling in to business.
