It will be arriving three-quarters through the month of August and like any good seafaring vessel, it has to have a name.
While names like S.S. Winthrop and S.S. McKenna have been tossed into the hat, students in grades one through seven, can submit name ideas for the ferry.
Mail your idea to the Winthrop Town Manager’s Office, Ferry Naming Contest, Town Hall Room 16, One Metcalf Square, Winthrop. The top three names will be placed on a web-based survey to allow residents to vote. The winner will receive a $25 gift card to a local ice cream shop.
The town council just approved $50,000 to get the ferry service running. Town Manager James McKenna said the next step is to get into marketing and co-branding with local restaurants.-
