WHS Principal Resigns Position

WINTHROP – Winthrop High School Principal Eileen Belastock has resigned her position that she held for a year and a half.

Superintendent John Macero said Belastock handed in her resignation on Monday, March 16 after she had been absent the week before. Before her resignation the official word was that she was taking care of some personal matters. Rumors regarding her resignation have been circulating around town and Macero said he would not comment on them.

The month of March has been a little rocky for the school, including threats made on social media by a Winthrop student.

When asked about the atmosphere at school one teacher said students are doing well and the morale of the teachers is good. The teacher said “a lot of things are happening for the better.”

Macero said he spoke with the staff last Tuesday and with the students last Wednesday. He said they are looking for a seamless transition and he will be posting the job opening. He expects the replacement to be hired to begin July 1.

“We wish her the best of luck with her future endeavors,” Macero said.

His plan is to temporarily move his office to the high school until the end of the school year. He, along with assistant principal Mathew Crombie, will be running the school.

Belastock was hired by Macero and became principal of WHS in July 2013. Prior to that she worked for King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham; Franklin Public Schools and Archbishop Williams High School.

She holds a masters in school administration from Bridgewater State University and a degree in accounting from Suffolk University.

Telephone calls made to Belastock were not returned.
