Winthrop High School’s 8th grade class will be organizing a Halloween dance fundraiser on Oct. 30, from 7:30-10:30pm, at the Winthrop Yacht Club to raise money for their class trip.
“The reason why we wanted to do this dance is to fundraise for out Washington, DC trip,†said Ava Bertino, Class President. “We want to make sure that everybody who deserves to go can go because it’s such an amazing experience.â€
Through parent donations, the class has been able to rent the hall, purchase decorations, and hire a DJ for musical entertainment. The dance, which takes place the night before Halloween so students can trick-or-treat the next evening, includes pizza, drinks, and candy. There will also be a photo booth for friends to take pictures together in their costumes.
There will be a 10:1 parent/teacher chaperone to student ratio at the dance. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased at lunch or at the door.
“I think it’s a phenomenal idea because we’ve looked at ideas in the past to help contribute to students being able to participate in Washington,†said Superintendent John Macero.
