Adamson Was the Star among Stars: Winthrop Catcher Named Agganis MVP

Jennifer Adamson had the right number on the back of her Agganis All-Star jersey: No. 1.

Adamson was No. 1 in virtually every category: hits, batting average, slugging percentage, and runs scored. She also caught all seven innings for the South contingent.

And when it came time for the writers to select the game’s Most Valuable Player, Adamson was No. 1 on every ballot as she was selected unanimously as the South team MVP in the annual Agganis All-Star Softball Game Sunday at Fraser Field in Lynn.

Continuing the first-is-best theme, the left-handed hitting Adamson batted leadoff and ripped a triple to left field. She scored the game’s first run and later added a single to complete a perfect 2-for-2 performance with four total bases.

Revere coach Joe Ciccarello, who has watched Adamson excel in the Northeastern Conference, said he wasn’t surprised that the Winthrop’s All-Star catcher made a big contribution to the South’s 6-3 victory.

“She played very well,” said Ciccarello. “It’s not easy to work with different pitchers but she did a great job behind the plate for all seven innings. I’ve always been impressed with all phases of her game. I congratulate her on being named the MVP. It’s a nice memory to have of winning  that award in your final high school game.”

Adamson, whose family was on hand for the game, said she felt “very honored” to receive the MVP award.

“Playing softball at Winthrop High was a great experience and a lot of fun,” said Jennifer, adding that she will attempt to earn a spot on the Division 2 Merrimack College softball squad as a walk-on candidate.
