Elaine Marley is calling it a career.
The beloved owner of Mrs. Marley’s Nursery School on Winthrop Street is selling the business.
Mrs. Marley issued the following statement upon her retirement:
This is a very difficult time for me. I will retire at the end of June, 2014, after 45 years of child care.
I have been open since 1985 doing business as Mrs. Marley’s Nursery School. It has been a wonderful road and I will truly miss seeing all those happy little faces and their parents and grandparents.
It was an honor for me in 2009 to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Chamber of Commerce. It was an honor that I will always remember.
Coming to school in the morning was a great way to start the day – greeting the children and chatting with the parents. We shared happy stories and sad ones.
I had a tremendous staff through the years and will always remember each and every one.
My daughter, Susan, who was with me more than 25 years, will retire along with me. We will now join forces for lunch, shopping, and sit by the pool and talk about our days as Mrs. M’s.
My daughter Charlene will be happy about no more bookkeeping and my sons will miss my help calls – “Shovel snow, fix the bathroom, put in an take out the air conditioners, don’t forget the trash – and much, much more.
I will be at the school to help Mrs. Oblenes for awhile for the transition.
Come by and say hello.
