Goll Will Play Hockey at Fenway: Northeastern Athlete Set for Prime Time

Chelsiea Goll

Chelsiea Goll was a spectator at Game 2 of the World Series in October matching the eventual champion Boston Red Sox against the St. Louis Cardinals.

A lifelong Red Sox fan whose family  has season tickets, Chelsiea attended the game at Fenway Park with her twin brother, Casey, a hockey player at Southern New Hampshire University.

“I said to my brother that in two months I’ll be on this field skating,” recalled Chelsiea.

A third-year right winger for the Northeastern women’s ice hockey team, Goll will be playing for the Lady Huskies in a game against Harvard on Thursday, Jan. 2 at Fenway Park.

Goll is “very excited” about the opportunity to play hockey at Fenway.

“I saw the Northeastern women’s team play there five years ago when I was in high school,” said Goll. “To be a member of the Northeastern team five years later and skate at Fenway is a big thrill. The whole team is stoked.”

Goll said she’s hopeful that her team can qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

“Our goal starts with doing well in the Hockey East Conference and then getting to the NCAAs,” said Goll.

Goll has enjoyed recent success in the Beanpot Tournament, an annual event in February matching the four Boston Division 1 hockey programs: Northeastern, BU, BC, and Harvard.

“Coming from Winthrop, it was a dream come true to play hockey at Northeastern, but also to be a local kid and win the Beanpot twice, it’s been surreal, pretty awesome,” said Goll. “Last year we beat BC (3-2), a national powerhouse, in the finals on their home ice, which was amazing.”

Interestingly Goll is a roommate of Northeastern star Kendall Coyne, who is a candidate for the U.S.A. Olympic women’s hockey team that will be playing in the Winter Olympics in Sochi in February.

“Kendall is an awesome hockey player,” said Goll. “She’s an inspiration to all of her teammates. She’s always working hard on the ice and always dedicated. She’s the type of kid who makes you want to work even harder. The fact that she is with the U.S. national team right now is amazing.”

Goll began playing ice hockey in the Winthrop Youth Hockey Association and joined Winthrop’s Nicole Ferrara (Syracuse) in the famed Assabet Valley organization in Concord.

“It was so much fun to see Nicole when we played against Syracuse,” said Goll.

Goll competed in prep school hockey for four years while a student at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, New Hamsphire and then earned a spot at Division 1 Northeastern, a program that Hall of Fame coach Don MacLeod of Winthrop helped put on the national map.

Goll is majoring in Sociology and will begin an internship in Northeastern’s well-known co-op program in January.

“I’ll be working on merchandising Red Bull [an energy drink] for six months and resuming my studies at Northeastern in September,” said Goll.

Chelsiea is the daughter of Connie and David Goll, who is the owner of the Winthrop Arms Restaurant and Hotel.
