Come On Down: Chamber’s Annual Beach Event Set for This Saturday

Beautiful Yirrell Beach on Point Shirley will be the place to be for fun in the sun this Saturday, July 13, for the 16th annual “Old Fashioned Family Day at the Beach.”  In the event of rain, the event will be held Sunday, July 14.

There will be lots to do for both kids and adults, with activities running from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.  Kids will enjoy taking a dip in the wave-runner and a slip on the water-slide. Spinning the tunes throughout the day will be DJ Jeff Lyons with some awesome beach music.  There will also be giveaways, games, raffles, a barbecue and much more.

Contests will take place all day.  They are free to enter and always entertaining.  The schedule for the day is as follows: 11:00 a.m. – Scavenger Hunt; 11:30 a.m. – Simon Says; 12:00 p.m. – Water Balloon Toss; 12:30 p.m. – Look-Alike Contest; 12:45 p.m. – Animal Imitation Contest; 1:00 p.m. – Adult Spelling Bee; 1:30 p.m. – Winthrop’s Got Talent; 2:00 p.m. – Hat Contest; 2:30 p.m. – Dance Contest; 3:00 p.m. – Hula Hoop Contest.

This event is put on by the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce and Winthrop MarketPlace.  There will be lots to do and enjoy, so be sure to bring a camera.  Special thanks to For Kids Only Afterschool, Kathy’s Place Youth Center, Woodside Ace Hardware, and the Winthrop Fire and Public Works departments for their assistance.  For more information go to www.winthropchamber.com.
