Winthrop Competes in the 6th Annual Battle of the Beach Softball Tournament

The sixth annual Battle at the Beach Softball Tournament was played last weekend and was the most exciting and competitive one yet.

The Winthrop team had a quality performance, posting a 1-1-1 overall record in games against the Lynn Lightning, New England Firebirds, and Malden Hurricanes.

Winthrop fell to Lynn, bested the Firebirds, 4-3, and battled the Hurricanes to a 4-4 tie.

Winthrop had strong performances from catcher Madelyn Fainga’a and shortstop Alli Love, who played strong defense and were a combined 8 for 13 at the plate.

The West Seneca Magic defeated the Newton Panthers in a thrilling contest in the finals of the 12-under division.

The West Seneca Magic 14-under team stormed through the division to take the title with an undefeated record.

Tournament director David Guffey thanked the Winthrop DPW, Parks and Recreation, Winthrop Little League, the Martucci family, Honan Sign Company, Massport, Winthrop High athletic department for their support of the tournament and all the people who volunteered their time and effort.
