Frances Gallivan 

Former Member of the Winthrop Catholic Women’s Club and St. John The Evangelist Development Committee 

Frances M. (Honan) Gallivan, a lifelong Winthrop resident, died on July 15. She was 90 years old.

A former member of the Winthrop Catholic Women’s Club and St. John The Evangelist Development Committee, she was the beloved wife of the late Joseph A. Gallivan; loving mother of Paul J. and Laura Gallivan of Milton, James R. and Catherine Gallivan of Winthrop, Jean M. and Thomas M. Curtis, Jr. of Medford, Joseph A., Jr. and Anne Gallivan and John F. Gallivan, all of Winthrop. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend her funeral from the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, 210 Winthrop St., Winthrop today, Thursday, July 19 at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John The Evangelist Church, Winthrop at 10 a.m.  Burial will be in Winthrop Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St John The Evangelist Parish, 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop, MA 02152.

Ellen ‘Helen’ Driscoll 

Former Longtime Winthrop Resident 

Ellen P. “Helen” (Brennan) Driscoll, a longtime Winthrop resident who most recently resided in Swampscott and Dana Point, California, died on July 16. She was 94 years old.

Mrs. Driscoll was a graduate of Winthrop High School and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School and a past member of the Winthrop Women’s Club and the Mother’s Club of BC High.

She was the beloved wife of the late Edward C. Driscoll, loving mother of Edward C. “Terry” Driscoll and his wife, Susan of Williamsburg, VA, Michael B. Driscoll of Duxbury, Denise P. Grinchis of Dana Point, California and Thomas J. Driscoll and his wife, Paula of North Reading; cherished grandmother of Keith Driscoll, Leslie Nelson, Tara Driscoll, Keira Driscoll, Ashley Grinchis, Thomas Driscoll, Devin Driscoll and Michael Driscoll and great grandmother of Hadley Driscoll and Lula and Edward Nelson.

A private service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are by the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, Winthrop.

Angelo Boncore 

Retired Insurance Broker, member of Sons of Italy and Winthrop Elks 

Angelo J. Boncore of Winthrop and Homosassa, Florida died at the Leonard Florence Center for Living on July 12 after a long illness. He was 88 years old.

Born in Boston, the loving son of the late Gaetana (Dantona) and Philip Boncore, he was a lifelong resident of Winthrop. A US Army veteran of World War II, he was a  member of Winthrop Lodge 2057 Order Sons of Italy and a Life Member of Winthrop Lodge Of Elks. Prior to his retirement, he was an insurance broker.

He was the beloved husband of the late Gloria (Abbruzzese), the devoted father of Marie Nowell of Homosassa, Florida, Carol Diener and her husband, Terrance of St. Louis, MO and Angela Boncore and her companion, Ron Catinazzo of Winthrop; the dear brother of Mrs. Mary O’Keefe of Winthrop and the late Robert and Philip Boncore and the loving grandfather of Janine, Phyllis, Denise, Katie, Jonathan and Angela. He is also survived by 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Ernest P. Caggiano & Son – O’Maley Funeral Home, Winthrop. Burial with military honors was in Winthrop Cemetery.

Pauline Codi 

Medford Resident 

Pauline M. (McGurk) Codi of Medford died on July 10. She was 85 years old.

She was the beloved wife of the late Ray Codi; loving mother of Brian G. Codi of Medford, Sharon M. and her husband, Paul Turcott of Somerville, Joanne M. Codi of Winthrop, William N. Codi of Medford and Joseph D. and his wife, Kristine E. Codi of Quincy; devoted sister of William McGurk of Canada and the late Anita Kusleika and Jean McGurk and cherished grandmother of Jeanine A. Codi-Dirienzo and Kayla S. Codi. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
