Winthrop Hospital Update: Meeting with Potential Developers Set for Monday

Our hard-working councilor from Precinct 2, James Letterie, has announced that there will be a very important meeting Monday evening at 6:00 at the E.B. Newton School with potential developers of the Winthrop Hospital property on Lincoln Street.

Letterie said a new proposal from a new developer, Winthrop Manor Limited Partnership, will be discussed at the meeting. It appears that the developer wants to build an assisted living facility on the property.

Letterie has been in touch with officials from Winthrop Manor and he feels it is a plan that deserves consideration, but he wants all residents of the neighborhood and the town to have some input on the proposal. Letterie invites residents to attend the meeting and hear first hand the plans for the property that has been unused for far too long.

Thank you, Winthrop Rotary

Local club once again steps in to fill a need

The Rotary Club of Winthrop stepped forward and donated books for every student in pre-kindergarten though fifth grade for the Winthrop Schools’ summer reading program, a gesture that can certainly be appreciated by all of our residents.

Superintendent of Schools John Macero, Cummings School Principal Bobbie Finocchio, and Gorman/Fort Banks Ilene Pearson expressed their gratitude to the Rotary on behalf of all the students who will benefit from this outstanding act of generosity.

Thank you, Winthrop Rotary, for helping our students.

Pancake Breakfast Sunday

Annual event will benefit the WHS football program

The Winthrop High football program will hold its annual Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon at the WHS Cafeteria. There will be all the pancakes and sausages you can eat, along with muffins and other breakfast treats.

The Pancake Breakfast has been a Father’s Day tradition in Winthrop for more than four decades and is an important fundraiser for coach Sean Driscoll’s  football program in this era of budget cutbacks.  We hope everyone will stop in and help make the event a success.
