The Strawberries Are Coming! Annual Strawberry Festival is This Tuesday

A true harbinger of the summer season in our community is the annual Strawberry Festival that is  held on the grounds of the Deane Winthrop House. The festival this year is set for Tuesday, June 19th , from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

The Strawberry Festival always is one of our favorite events of the season (or of any season, for that matter!)  because it is a quintessential small-town  gathering of friends, neighbors, and family members of all ages on a typically beautiful evening at a location, the historic Deane Winthrop House, which means so much to all of us, both as Winthrop residents and as Americans.

In addition, the Festival supports a good cause, serving as the chief fundraiser each year for the Winthrop Improvement and Historical Association, which is responsible for maintaining our local historical treasure.

And of course, there is the strawberry shortcake itself.  (And we will confess that we typically buy two tickets because it always is so good!)

Tickets MUST be purchased in advance and are available at the Library, Senior Center, Chamber of Commerce, Woodside Hardware, Brown’s Pharmacy and Brother’s Restaurant or by calling Kathy Guillory at 617-846-6267. They are still only $5 each.

There also will be some exciting raffles, including last year’s very popular Red Sox tickets and a family four pack of movie tickets to the Showcase Cinema.  The drawings will begin at 7:00 p.m. and, as long as you put your name and phone number on the ticket, you do not need to be present to win. Also, please no pets. Some people have allergies or balance issues and everyone must be as comfortable and as safe as possible
