WCAT Fundraiser Planned for June 2

Winthrop Community Access Television, commonly known in town as WCAT, will produce a June 2 fundraiser to support the WCAT Equipment Fund and at the same time give folks in town a chance to see if they have any hidden or forgotten valuables in their attic, basement or garage.

The WCAT Treasurers In Your Attic program will offer residents an opportunity to meet with one of four certified and experienced appraisers, each with their own area of expertise, in a program similar to the popular public television show “Antiques Roadshow.”

“We did this kind of show a few years ago and we had a lot of fun with it and we really generated a lot of interest,” explained WCAT Executive Director Mike Cabral. “We thought it was time to bring the show back again and the proceeds will be a big help to us in our never ending effort to provide and maintain quality equipment for our many producers.”

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the station’s main studio area and resident with hidden treasures in their homes can bring in up to three items for a modest entrance fee.

$5 for one item, $8 for two items and $12 for three items, according to Cabral.

Resident can also avoid having to wait in line to see an appraiser, by calling ahead to register for an appraisal slot.

Some items are not eligible to be appraised, including modern firearms and stamps.
