With the end of the regular season in high school football, the annual post-season awards were announced this week and five Winthrop players were chosen on offense and defense as CAL/NEC all-stars for their performances this season, including offensive and defensive lineman Dan Feeley, who was named Lineman of the Year for CAL/NEC Tier 3.
“I’m really happy for Dan (Feeley) because he was all over the place making his presence felt on both sides of the ball this year, especially in the last three or four games,†said head coach Sean Driscoll. “That award is a recognition by the coaches of his impact on our team.â€
Captain Matt Stasio was also named an all-star for his work as an offensive lineman this season and on the defensive side of the ball seniors Jimmy Barker (linebacker) and Mitchell Paulson (linebacker) were names to the team, as was sophomore strong safety Jordan Corbett-Frank.
Winthrop Honorable Mentions for the all-star team included senior Quinton Dale, junior Jake McKinnon and Luke Hodgkins.
Barker was also named an all-star by the Lynn Daily Item, which annually chooses the top 25 players on offense and defense on the North Shore.
The next award to be announced will be Winthrop Rotary Club’s annual Irving P. Alexander Award presentation, which will be made next Monday, December 5 at 12 noon as the weekly Rotary Luncheon.
