The Winthrop Police Department is partnering with Bunker Hill Community College and Community Action Programs Inter City (CAPIC) on a toy donation and distribution program for Winthrop families.

Police Chief Terence Delehanty said that Lee Nugent, domestic violence advocate for the WPD and an employee of Chelsea-based CAPIC, is helping to coordinate the program.

“Lee will be working with CAPIC to provide toys for the holiday season for Winthrop families,” said Delehanty. “Lee started this program some years ago in Revere and she’s brought it to Winthrop.”

The chief said that Winthrop residents can drop off toy donations at the police station. CAPIC’s office at 100 Everett Ave., Chelsea, is also accepting donations.

Rosie Bouemenot, a student nurse from the BHCC Nursing Class of 2011, is the school’s liaison to Winthrop.

“My role is to help support the Winthrop toy drive,” said Bouemenot, a graduate of Simmons College. “We at the Bunker Hill Nursing Department wanted to help out the program.”

Silvia Frometa of CAPIC thanked the town of Winthrop and the WPD for their efforts and generosity. “I say thank you for the effort – they’re going to make many children very happy.”
