Lifelong Sox fans win Green Monster seats

Two lifelong Red Sox fans won pairs of Monster seats to 10 games at Fenway Park in the Boston Red Sox Monster Money Second-Chance Drawing from the Massachusetts State Lottery.

John Marotta of Beverly and Anne McLain of Stoughton were selected from 210,035 entries, including 174,605 internet entries. In addition to the tickets, the winners both received $3,500. This contest was the first of five second-chance drawings that will be held for Monster seats.

Marotta, a 26-year veteran of the Winthrop Police Department, said he has been following the Red Sox since the Boston Braves played in town. The Braves moved to Milwaukee in 1953. “I was completely shocked when I received the call that I’d won,” Marotta, 67, said at Lottery headquarters in Braintree.

McLain, 82, said she has a love-hate relationship with the Olde Town Team. “I curse them when they lose and love them when they win,” she said with a smile.

Monster Money, the Lottery’s fifth Red Sox instant game, features more than $96 million in prizes, including seven grand prizes of $1 million and three grand prizes of $3 million.

The game’s marquee prizes will be second-chance drawings for 10 pairs of Monster seats to 10 Red Sox home games. Second-place prizes of Red Sox Gear packages will also be awarded to 2,600 second-chance contestants.

The $10 instant game is expected to raise $14.6 million for Massachusetts’ 351 cities and towns.
