Connors finishes undefeated season in the high jump

Jake “Skywalker” Connors concluded an undefeated season in the high jump, taking first place at Saugus with a leap of 6-4 in the final dual meet of the year on Monday.

Jake almost made it a season of being undefeated in two events, but he settled for a second place finish in the triple jump with a landing of 39-3. He had won the triple jump in all six of the previous dual meets this season.

Connors now will be out to defend his Northeastern Conference championship in the high jump this Saturday when he and his teammates compete in the NEC Meet at the Manning Bowl in Lynn. Connors then will set his sights on the State Divisional Meet next Saturday at Seekonk.

Jake was not the only Viking among Coach Pat. McGee’s crew to turn in a first place performance against Saugus. Dan Sena took first in the 400 intermediate hurdles in 67.0; Matt Stasio grabbed first in the discus with a toss of 105-0; and the 4 x 100 relay team of Connors, Jordan Ekidat, Mark Jenkins, and Sena also earned five points.

Stasio also placed three points onto the Viking scoresheet with a second place toss of 33-9 in the shotput.

The versatile Ekidat scored points in three individual events with a third in the 100 dash in 11.8; a third in the triple jump with a 37-4; and a long jump of 18-6, good for second place.

Alejandro Miranda brought home a second place in the two mile in 11:16. Adding single points for the Vikings with third place performances were: Mario Mazzone in the 800 in 2:44; Mark Jenkins in the 400 in a PR time of 58.4; Rob Oscolli in the 100 hurdles; Nick Floyd in the mile in 5:36; Nick Doonan in the discus with a throw of 97-0; and Paul Correale with a shotput heave of 33-7.75.
