Fucillo continues to dominate NEC rivals

Jenny Fucillo still has not met her match this season against Northeastern Conference opponents, as the Lady Viking “rocket” (the description applied to her by an opposing coach) won three events in both of the last two meets for the Winthrop High girls track team.

Jenny captured the 400 low hurdles, the 110 high hurdles, and the long jump against Marblehead and Danvers in the past week to pace Coach Warren MacPhail’s squad. Her clocking of 65.5 in the low hurdles marked a personal record (PR) for the Lady Viking star.

Teammate Christina Russo also was a force to be reckoned with, as she sped to first place in both the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes in both meets. Her times of 13.2 in the 100 and 27.2 in the 200 against Marblehead were PRs for Christina.

Julia Wallace finished first for Winthrop in the high jump with a leap of 4-6 in the Marblehead meet. Other point scorers for the Lady Vikings in that meet were: Jessica Dowson with two third place efforts in the 400 hurdles in 76.0 and in the 100 hurdles in 19.1; Alyssa Mackey with a pair of third place finishes in the 100 dash in 13.8 and the 200 dash in 28.5; Jordan Griffiths with a third in the mile 6:20; Gina Giuliano with two second place performances in the triple jump with a landing of 28.3 and the 800 meter run in 2:45; Renee LoPresti took a second in the high jump with a leap of 4-6; and Lauren LoPresti scored six points with two second places in the shotput with a toss of 24-3 and the discus with a throw of 76-0.

Among the other highlights of the Danvers meet were a PR by Erin O’Leary in the shotput with a throw of 27-6; Maria Rago lowered her 800 time to 2:52; and Nicole O’Brien lowered her mile time to 6:20.

The final dual meet of the season for MacPhail and his crew is Wednesday at Saugus.
