Vikings drub Swampscott to improve to 8-1-1 on season

The Winthrop High hockey team continued its winnings ways, drubbing Swampscott 8-1 at Larsen Rink Saturday evening.

Joe Scarfo and Joe Casey both scored the hat trick for the Vikings, who now stand at 8-1-1 on the season. Playmaker supreme Chris Leblanc, who has a knack for knowing where his teammates are for a pass, was credited with three assists.

Back up goalie Stephen Waites turned away 12 shots to pick up his first win of the season.

The triumph came on the heels of a 4-2 win over a tough Lynn squad last Wednesday. Winthrop jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the opening period on two goals by LeBlanc and a solo by Casey. Tyler Pettee and Scarfo earned assists.

Scarfo then lit the lamp in the second period to, assisted by Brendan Loomis, to close out the scoring for the Vikings.

Coach Dale Dunbar and his crew will travel to Salem Saturday and host non league rival Bishop Fenwick next Wednesday at Larsen at 6:10.
