Patricia (Farrell) Molloy Ryan, born November 5, 1943, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of James F. Ryan, with whom she shared the past three wonderful years of marriage.
She was born in Cambridge to the late Mary C. (Laverty) Farrell and Bernard F. Farrell.
Patty was a lifelong resident of Winthrop and grew up as a “Point Kid.” She attended Fitton Catholic Elementary School in East Boston and was a graduate of Winthrop High School, Class of 1961, with whom she celebrated their 65th reunion just three weeks ago.
She worked at Gilchrist’s in Boston then at Cliff House Nursing Home in Winthrop. In 1972 she began working for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, retiring from the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority in 2002. She served as a chapter officer for United Steelworkers, Local 9358.
In 1991, she married her childhood friend and coworker, Thomas P. Molloy. They moved back to their beloved Point Shirley where they lived until Tom’s death in 2013. They enjoyed hosting friends and family every 4th of July to watch the annual Horribles Parade. After Tom’s death, Patty found love again while working as a concierge at Seal Harbor and married her husband, Jim in 2023. They shared many laughs and enjoyed traveling together.
Patty was known for her dancing, whether it was doing the twist at the PSA as a teenager, disco dancing at the Winthrop Yacht Club with friends on a Friday after work or performing with the Seaside Tappers at the annual DeLeo Senior Center Christmas Show. She made friends wherever she went at every stage of her life and seemed to know everyone no matter where she went. She will be greatly missed by her many friends, her Thursday coffee group, her Fitton grammar school pals, her WHS classmates, and all the kids from the Point, including Peggy, Charlie, Linda, Larry, Diane, Jack, Francine and her BFF Joan (DeCost) Vaughan, with whom she remained close throughout her life.
Patty felt her greatest achievement was her children and grandchildren. She was the loving mother of Kimberly (Brady) Costigan and her husband, Patrick of Winthrop and Kathleen (Brady) Costigan and her husband. Brian of Bristol, NH. She was the beloved Nana of Michael, Kelly, Christopher, Katelin, Julie, Karalyn and Spencer. Patty loved being a Nana and always joked that if she knew being a grandmother was this wonderful, she would have done that first. She also leaves behind niece, Ellen Bills of Maine and nephew, Daniel Remnitz of Australia. She was predeceased by her sister, Sheila (Farrell) Bills.
The funeral will be conducted from the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop today, Thursday, October 15, 2026 followed by a 10 a.m. Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church (St. Michael’s Parish).
