Ferrara takes the lead at quarterback

Senior quarterback and captain Charlie Ferrara threw two touchdown passes in the Vikings’ 47-6 rout of Saugus at Miller Field.

Ferarra has played well in his five starts, earning praise from head coach Jon Cadigan.

“The confidence that he’s showing this season, he’s making decisions quicker, he definitely looks more comfortable, and he’s been very steady for us this year,” said Cadigan.

Ferrara fired long-range strikes to Nate Previte (32 yards) and Michael D’Ambrosio (25 yards) for two crowd-pleasing touchdowns. John Ferrara had a 36-yard reception.

“The boys made some good catches. They make my job easy,” Ferrara said humbly after the game.

Asked about his level of confidence in his second season as the Vikings’ signal caller, Ferrara replied, “I have very good coaches. I have very good guys around me, so I’m very confident. The running backs are great. The receivers are great. I love them all.”

Previte said of his touchdown reception, “The football was on the money. Whenever Charlie throws it to me, it’s always on the money. We have a tough game coming up with St. Mary’s, but we’ll be ready to play. We’re a family.”

D’Ambrosio said Ferrara’s touchdown pass to him was “right in the bread-basket.”

I just ran my route, let Charlie do what he had to do, and he got the football to me,” said D’Ambrosio.

Cadigan said the offensive line played well in front of Ferrara, citing the game-long efforts of center Evan DeMayo, guards Riley Moccio and Eddie Leal, tackle Jeremy Pena and Teddy McAvoy, who made his first start at tackle and noseguard (“I thought Teddy played exceptionally at the nose,” said Cadigan).

Charlie Ferrara and his teammates have a big test Friday against St. Mary’s High School (3-2), who are coached by Sean Driscoll, Winthrop’s popular parks and recreation director.
