The 2026 fall season for Winthrop High athletes is set to get underway this week.
The Viking golfers opened their 2026 campaign this past Tuesday with a match at non-league opponent Northeast Regional. The Vikings will host Northeastern Conference (NEC) rival Saugus at the Winthrop Golf Club (WGC) today (Thursday) and will travel to NEC foe Beverly next Tuesday. They will return to the WGC to entertain NEC rival Swampscott next Thursday.
The boys soccer team is scheduled to kick off its 2026 season vs. NEC foe Gloucester at Miller Field next Thursday afternoon (September 10). That contest will be the first of three games in three days for the Vikings, who will travel to non-league opponent Arlington Catholic next Friday (September 11) and return home to entertain NEC rival Saugus next Saturday afternoon (September 12) at Miller at 12:30.
The Lady Viking soccer team will get its 2026 season underway when they trek to Saugus on Saturday afternoon (September 12) for a 12:30 kickoff.
The WHS volleyball team will open its season at Saugus this coming Tuesday (September 8) and will travel to non-league foe Chelsea on Friday, Sept. 11.
The WHS cross country teams will host Masconomet at the Deer Island course next Wednesday, Sept, 9.
The Viking football team will make the trek northward to non-league opponent Essex Tech next Friday evening, September 11, for its season-opener. The Friday Night Lights contest is set to kick off at 6:30.
