Dave Hubbard

Long-time residents of our community were saddened to learn of the passing of G. David “Dave” Hubbard this past week.

Dave served our community in countless capacites over the course of more than six decades, most notably as Town Meeting Moderator for 25 years from 1981 to 2006.

Dave also was incredibly active in many civic endeavors, especially with the Winthrop Improvement and Historical Association. Dave often donned Colonial garb on special occasions to provide guided tours of the Deane Winthrop House.

He was named the Town Historian and wrote more than 900 columns — spanning almost 20 years — in the Sun Transcript that highlighted historical aspects of Winthrop.

Dave received countless awards for his public service and we selected him as one of the 100 most influential citizens in Winthrop for the 100-year period from 1900-2000 for our special turn-of-the-century edition.

We know we join with all of our fellow residents in offering our condolences to Claire, Dave’s wife of 68 years, and their six children.

May he rest in peace.
