Majority of Winthrop polling locations headed back to old middle school

In-person voting is moving to the Old Middle School gym for the majority of Winthrop residents beginning with the state primary on Tuesday, Sept. 1.

The return to the Old Middle School gym at 151 Pauline St. comes after one year of voting at the high school or middle school for most voters as demolition and abatement work took place for the new fire station project on Pauline Street last year.

Last week, the Winthrop Town Council voted to move the polling location for all registered voters in 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6 back to the Old Middle School.

Voters in Precinct 4 will continue to cast their ballots at O’Connell Hall at 9 Golden Drive.

Council President Jim Letterie said he believes the Old Middle School is a more convenient spot, and gives the schools more flexibility on election days.

The last day to register to vote in the state primary is Saturday, August 22 in Winthrop Town Hall, Room 5. The town hall will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on that day for voter registration.

Winthrop Town Hall will be open for early voting in the primary on Saturday, August 22 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m; Monday, August 24 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Tuesday, August 25 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Wednesday, August 26 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Thursday, August 27 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
