Alongside the town’s main events, the Winthrop Improvement & Historical Association (WIHA) is hosting a packed schedule of activities to celebrate Winthrop’s history, community, and our nation’s birthday. True to their motto to “Preserve the Past. Inspire the Future,” the organization is inviting the public to join them for a special Independence Week.
On Friday, July 3, residents can visit the WIHA table at Landing Day to say hello, learn about the historic Deane Winthrop House, discover upcoming events, and explore volunteer and membership opportunities. The community pride continues on Saturday, July 4, as the WIHA proudly marches in the annual Horribles Parade, helping to preserve the unique stories that make Winthrop special.
The celebration carries over into the following weekend. On July 11 and 12, as the town welcomes visitors for Sail Boston’s Tall Ships celebration, the Deane Winthrop House (c. 1637) will open its doors for Historic House Tours from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Guests are invited to step inside one of the oldest surviving homes in the United States to experience over 375 years of local history.
To help residents navigate the busy July 3 festivities, a free shuttle service will be departing the town landing hourly from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., making several stops in town. Event organizers are strongly encouraging residents to take the shuttle if possible to help alleviate traffic.
July 3 Shuttle Service Details:
• Continuous service runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Both shuttles depart the Town Landing hourly.
• Shuttles wait 2 minutes at each stop.
• The final loop departs the Landing at 7:30 p.m.
