Applications available for senior citizen property tax work-off program
Applications for the 2026 Senior Citizen Property Tax Work-Off Program are now available online and at the Winthrop Senior Center. Applications are due back to the Senior Center by noon on Friday, March 27.
The program requires that applicants are a taxpayer 60 years or older during the tax year when the volunteering is completed. To be credited, the applicant must have an ownership interest and reside in the property year-round.
The total property tax reduction will not exceed $750, and the 50 hours of work must be completed by Nov. 13. A CORI release must accompany the application.
If the town receives more applications than it has spots, participants will be selected by lottery and notified shortly after. Lottery winners may be required to attend an orientation session at the senior center prior to beginning their service.
Work can begin immediately after notification in conjunction with authorization from the senior center director. Work will generally be completed during the town’s normal business hours, depending on the needs of the department to which the applicant is assigned.
Money earned through the tax work-off program is reportable income for federal taxes only. Participants will receive a W-2 form for the amount of money earned through the program.
Winthrop Launches First-Ever Girls Flag Football League
Winthrop is officially bringing a new tradition to the gridiron this spring with the launch of the community’s first Girls Flag Football League. Designed to empower young athletes and foster a love for the game, the league is now open for registration for girls in grades 1 through 8.
The inaugural season kicks off on April 19th and will run through June 21st, culminating in a playoff series. All games and activities will take place on Sunday afternoons from 2 to 5 p.m. at Miller Field.
League Structure and Details
To ensure age-appropriate competition and skill development, the league is currently organized into two primary divisions:
• Junior Division: Grades 1st – 4th
• Senior Division: Grades 5th – 8th (Note: Divisions are subject to change based on final registration numbers.)
The registration fee is $125.00 per player. Families can feel good about their contribution, as all proceeds from the league will directly benefit the WHS Girls High School Flag Football Team, helping to build a sustainable pipeline for the sport in Winthrop schools.
Registration is now live and can be completed online. Parents and guardians can sign up their athletes by visiting the following link or scanning the QR codes found on official league flyers:

The mission of the league is to provide a fun, safe, and competitive environment where girls can learn the fundamentals of football, teamwork, and leadership. Whether a seasoned athlete or a first-time player, the league welcomes all skill levels to come out and “Play Like a Girl.”
