Letters to the Editor

In support of Councilor Tassinari

Dear Editor,

I was amazed at the one-sided article in last week’s Sun-Transcript regarding Councilor Tassinari. I was even more surprised that Ms Diana Viens was your sole interviewee. (Ed. Note: The Sun-Transcript reached out to Mr. Tassinari on four occasions. We even held the story for a week, but he did not respond to us. The news story in this week’s Sun-Transcript presents Mr. Tassinari’s point-of-view.)

An examination of the recall petition demonstrates that those seeking to recall Councilor Tassinari have no basis in fact. His supposed conflicts on 3A don’t exist given that the Councilor filed a disclosure and between that and public record demonstrate there was no coordination between MADOT and those at MADHLC (the housing office which wrote the 3A regulations). Case closed

The other objections to Mr Tassinari are that he simply read the officially-recorded Council meeting minutes and noted that those minutes recorded Councilor DeMarco as absent from 3 Council Meetings in a row. Our Town Council rules state that Mr. DeMarco should be automatically removed. It was President Lettiere who accused Councilor Tassinari of politicizing something where the rules are clear. Mr Tassinari never introduced political motives, only his opponents have. Case Closed

Ms Viens and the group that signed the recall petition are by and large among the No on 3A protest leaders. They keep claiming that victory is coming their way via the Courts,  but they have faced defeat after defeat after defeat. So they revert to trying to recall Councilors who don’t bend to their whimsy. They have unsuccessfully threatened to recall me, Hannah Belcher, John Munson and John Daros.

We live in Trumplandia where obeying the law seems optional, where casting aspersions (Obama is a terrorist!) on political enemies has become toxic.

Unfortunately the average citizen has these recall documents thrust in front of them. The language is rather breathless about crimes committed.

Do not sign the petition to recall Councilor Tassinari. The effort to remove him is nefarious and damaging to our town. The sore losers behind the recall (also remember that Max beat one of their pals by 2 to 1 in that election) are not acting in good faith.

Joseph C Aiello,

Winthrop Council Pct. 5
