Martucci scores her 100th career point, and then adds a hat trick in Vikes’ 7-0 victory

If you’re going to enter the 100-point career club, you may as well enter in style (three goals, one assist) and with a convincing victory for your team.
Winthrop senior captain Talia Martucci assisted on defenseman Tegan Pereira’s early first-period goal and then scored three goals of her own as the Vikings rolled to a 7-0 victory over Medford Saturday at the Larsen Rink at the Mike Eruzione Center.
“Talia was trying to wave it [an assist for her 100th point as opposed to a goal] off, but I said, ‘Are you kidding me? That’s 100 points,’’’ related her father, head coach Anthony Martucci.
Playing on her third shift of the game, Martucci collected the puck and raced into the zone before a Medford defenseman impeded her path. Martucci directed the puck to Chloe Couture who passed the puck out front to Pereira, who scored the Vikings’ first goal of the 2024-25 season.
Martucci went on to record the eighth hat-trick of her sterling career.
“That first goal really set the tone on our way to a big victory,” said Butch Martucci. “We came out fast. The girls really wanted to win the game for the seniors, because it was the last first game (Is that phrase an oxymoron?) of their careers.”
Angela Coscia scored two goals, one of the highlight-reel variety, while Amelia Spencer also netted a goal.
Junior goaltender Riley Towse made six saves to record the shutout.

Talia Martucci skated on a line with junior Chloe Couture and sophomore Angela Coscia. Also excelling was the line of junior Reese Ferrara, senior Gabby Buonopane, and sophomore Amelia Serino.
Defensemen Amelia Spencer partnered with Francesca Indrisano while the other duo consisted of Tegan Pereira and Avalina Coffey. Senior Izi Hain also contributed on defense.
Coach Martucci said his team’s wearing of green hockey jerseys was a memorial tribute to his friend, Todd Sullivan, who was a tremendous supporter of the WHS girls hockey team. “Todd would text me before every game and 52 shamrocks would be on that text. He was proud of his Irish heritage. After the game, Todd would make food and bring it to the rink for the players. The Sullivans are great people. I really wanted to do something for Todd and the way he cared for my program. We’ll be naming an award in Todd’s honor and presenting it at our banquet,” said Martucci.
