Winthrop High hockey team dedicates its season to Thomas W. Bailey

The Winthrop High School hockey team has dedicated its season in memory of Thomas W. Bailey, a 2021 graduate of Winthrop High School, who died unexpectedly on July 13, 2022.

Team captains Jack Hayes, Petey Silverman, Nate Evangelista, and Billy Hayes presented flowers to Thomas W. Bailey’s parents, Thomas Bailey and Beth Wayland Bailey, and his brother, Teddy Bailey, during a ceremony held before the Vikings’ game against Grafton High School Monday at Larsen Rink at the Mike Eruzione Center. The large crowd in attendance responded with a warm and substantial ovation following the dignified, on-ice ceremony.

Jack Hayes said all the players, with the support of coaches Dale Dunbar, Mike Norris, Chris Finn, and Phil Lundberg,v made the decision to dedicate the season in memory of Thomas W. Bailey. “We thought it would be a great idea to do that,” said Hayes. “Everyone knew Thomas. He played hockey growing up and was an awesome kid. He has a great family that everyone in town knows and admires. Everything we do moving forward is in memory of Thomas and for him. We know this will inspire us this season.”

Melissa Dolen, one of Beth Bailey’s lifelong friends, remembered Thomas W. Bailey as “a very humble, quiet, genuine, and kind young man.”

Dolen said the Bailey family has been overwhelmed by the support that the town has given them.

Evan Adamson said of his friend and Winthrop High classmate, “Thomas was such a good friend to all of us. He was one of my best friends. We always loved his presence. We miss him dearly every day, and we’re so thankful to Winthrop hockey for dedicating this season to him.”
