Tony Marino Begins As Winthrop’s New Town Manager

Tony Marino arrived bright and early Monday for his first day as the new town manager of Winthrop.

He walked energetically up the steps of Town Hall and strode business-like into the second floor Town Manager’s Office officially as the new chief executive in charge. As Town Historian David Hubbard will chronicle: a new era in the history of Winthrop had officially begun.

Town Council President Jim Letterie arrived at the Town Manager’s Office to personally greet Marino.

“I’m excited to be here on my first day,” Marino told the Sun-Transcript. “I have my first meeting with the department heads at 10 a.m. and I hit the ground running.”

Marino credited Interim Town Manager Terence Delehanty for making it a smooth transition.

“He left everything nice and neat and a good pass-down, so I have a list of items that I have to get started on right away and I’m looking forward to getting to work,” said Marino.

Jim Letterie Calls it ‘A Great Day for Winthrop’

Jim Letterie illuminated on Marino’s arrival and the special day at Town Hall.

“Tony brings new energy, excitement, and enthusiasm, which I believe are extremely important at this time,” said Letterie. “I believe his skill set is a perfect fit for our needs, and I can’t wait to see what the next three years will bring. I believe Tony and I, along with the other councilors, share very similar goals of getting our key positions fully staffed, bringing a vision for the middle school site to the public, and addressing the needs of a fire and police station. This is a great day for Winthrop.”

Edwards, Turco Also Weigh in on an Historic Day

Sen. Lydia Edwards said she got to chat with Marino two days before his first official day in office.

“We chatted briefly while he was flipping burgers at the Spring Fair (Saturday at Ingleside Park),” said Edwards. “You can tell he’s all in for Winthrop and I can’t wait to work with him. It’s an exciting time for the town.”

Said Rep. Jeff Turco, “I am pleased to welcome the Tony Marino Era in Winthrop town government. Strong, bold, and transformative leadership is desperately needed for Winthrop, and I am confident our new town manager fits the bill.
