Americo “Rico” LoConte

Former Winthrop Resident

Americo “Rico” LoConte, formerly of Winthrop, passed away at the Carney Hospital in Dorchester on March 18. He was 94 years old.

Born in Boston, the beloved son of the late Maryann (Lombardi) and Antonio LoConte, he was a resident of Winthrop for many years. He worked as an oil delivery man for LoConte Oil and for the Winthrop DPW on the trash truck. Rico also helped out at the Pizza Center folding boxes, sweeping the floor and grinding the cheese.

He was wonderfully cared for by the staff at the Bay Cove group home in Hyde Park where he was residing at the time of his passing.

The dear brother of Carmella Luizza and the late Angelo and John LoConte, he is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop, today, Thursday, March 24 from 11 to 11:30 a.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home immediately following the visitation at 11:30 a.m. Committal will be private.

Jeanne Young

Of Revere

Jeanne F. (Aylward) Young, 91, of Revere, formerly of Charlestown, passed away on Sunday, March 20 at home surrounded by her loving family.

The beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Young Sr., she was the loving mother of Thomas J. Young Jr. and his wife, Rebecca, Gerald Young and his wife, Denise, Kenneth Young and his wife, Nicki, Mary Bertolino and her husband, Anthony and Ellen Umlah and her husband, Chris; adored grandmother of Danielle, Nicole, Thomas III, Kristen, Kenny Jr., Erika, Robert, Alex, Darci, Troy, Tyler, Jeremy, Giovanna, Peter, Kali, and Michael and cherished great-grandmother of 18.  She was the caring sister of the late James Aylward, Eileen Wall, Thomas Aylward, George Aylward, Rita Brennan, Betty Grassia, and Teresa Aylward and is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Family and friends will honor Jeanne’s life by gathering in Vazza’s “Beechwood” Funeral Home, 262 Beach St., Revere on Monday, March 28        from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with a Funeral Service beginning at 12 Noon in our Chapel of the Resurrection.  Interment will follow at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody.

Ann Jones

Member of Winthrop Housing Tenant’s Committee

Ann M. (Corcell) Jones of Winthrop passed away on March 11. She was 82 years old.

The beloved wife of the late Robert Jones, she was born in Boston, the cherished daughter of the late Harry and Olga (Perella) Corcell.

Prior to her retirement, Ann worked in the patient billing department in several medical institutions. She graduated from Bunker Hill Community College where she obtained an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration and was a member of the Winthrop Housing Tenant’s Committee, located in the housing complex where she lived.

Ann was the devoted mother of Helene F. Marsden of Hudson, MA., the adored grandmother of Edward Marsden and his wife, Alessandra of Winthrop, the loving great-grandmother of Sofia, Emma and Edward and the dear sister of the late Frank Corcell.

Paul Gaeta

Proprietor of North Shore Liquor

Paul Gaeta, a long time resident of Winthrop, passed away at home on March 17. He was 79 years old.

Born in Revere, the beloved son of the late Marie (Pisano) and Arthur Gaeta, he was the proprietor of the North Shore Liquor Company in Revere for over 35 years and a member of the Northshore Old Car Club.

He was the devoted husband of Sandra (Wright) and the loving father of Christopher Gaeta of Winthrop, the dear brother of Richard Gaeta and his wife, Janie of Salem, loving cousin of Helene Gordon and her husband, Jerry of Maryland and his late cousin Frank “Sonny” Gaeta and his wife, Millie of Pembroke and the beloved godfather of Gina and Jessica. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Kristen Messias

Lifelong Winthrop Resident

Kristen E. (Akexanian) Messias of Winthrop passed away on March 17. She was 50 years old.

A lifelong Winthrop resident, Kristen used to work in the restaurant industry for many years at establishments like Assaggio in the North End and The Union Oyster House in Faneuil Hall prior to staying home to take care of her children.  She was widely known for her generosity when she went out to eat. “They work hard for their money” was something she would frequently say after leaving what one would consider a very generous tip.

Born in Boston, she was the beloved daughter of the late Alex Alexanian and Sandy Alexanian of Winthrop; the loving mother of Kimberley and Fernando Messias Jr. of Quincy, dear sister of Michael Alexanian of Hingham and loving aunt to Lindsey, Megan and Hannah Alexanian of Kingston, MA; dear cousin to Steven and Kenneth Smith of Charleston, WV and Chris Sullivan of Kanata, ON Canada.

Edward Dwyer

Of Winthrop

Edward M. Dwyer of Winthrop, formerly of Watertown and Somerville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 16 at 79 years of age. 

The beloved husband of 54 years to Marie (Wons) Dwyer, he was the devoted father of Kelli and her husband, Alex Basile of Rowley and Melissa and her husband, Paul Giacalone of Winthrop; dear brother of the late Virginia Melanson and Thelma Iozzo and cherished grandfather of Alessandra, Arianna, Isabella, Olivia, Zachary, Jake, Ella and Devin. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. 

Family and friends honored Edward’s life by gathering at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 971 Saratoga Street, (Orient Heights) East Boston, on Monday, March 21 before leaving in procession to St. John’s Church, Winthrop, for a Funeral Mass celebrating Edward’s life. Services concluded with Edward being laid to rest at Winthrop Cemetery, Belle Isle Section.
