The Assumption College Department of Athletics has announced that Michael Zampanti, of Winthrop, has earned a spot on the 2019-20 Menâ€™s Ice Hockey team.
The Hounds are ranked third in the Northeast-10 Preseason Coachesâ€™ Poll and concluded their 2018-19 season with a 15-9-3 record, marking the first time in 25 years that the program won 15 or more games in back-to-back seasons. The team finished their season with a triple-overtime loss to Saint Anselmâ€™s in the semifinals of the NE10 Tournament, the longest game in school history at 103 minutes. Robert Roche â€˜20 was named the NE10 Defensive Player of the Year while Devan Sheth â€˜22 was selected as Rookie of the Year.
â€œOur players are ready to return to the ice to compete again for the NE10 Championship this season,â€ said Michael Looney â€˜12, second-year head coach of the Menâ€™s Ice Hockey team. â€œWe have a strong, tight-knit group of student-athletes who work hard on the ice and in the classroom. I am certain that our returning seniors will lead the rookies both on and off the ice, and I am looking forward to seeing how the team progresses throughout the season.â€
