Bike Check-Ups & Repairs With Bike Winthrop

 

Bike got a flat? Rusty chain or brakes?Mysterious glitch in your gears? Bring your bike down to the Bike Winthrop table at the I Love Winthrop Festival in French Square this Sunday, Sept. 16 for a free check-up from 1-3 p.m.! Repairs will be available for fee as well (cash or PayPal/Venmo), please bring your own parts. We’ll also be working on a new Winthrop Bike Map so bring your ideas!

 

 

Revere Street to be paved

Revere Street will be repaved and according to the Department of Public Works, the paving schedule for the Contract 5 water main and roadway restoration project is as follows:

Sunday, Sept. 16 (4 p.m. to 12 a.m.) Revere Street (Magees Corner to Shirley)
Central Street

 

 

A look ahead to Sept. 21 on Winthrop Shore Drive

With the paving and striping of Winthrop Shore Drive, the construction work has reached “substantial completion.” With the major items of construction completed, what remains is the “punch list” of minor items to be completed and minor repairs. The following work items are ongoing along Winthrop Shore Drive.

Residents can expect to see these activities continue over the next two weeks.

  •  Touch up work on walls and other miscellaneous “punch list” items will be addressed.
  •  The railings in Highland Park will be installed.
  •  If necessary, detours and setups will be in place during working

hours.

  •  Police on site to help manage traffic.
  •  Work hours: 6 – 7 a.m. for setups and detours
  • 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. for construction and 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm for safety breakdown of setups and any minor work to make the roadway and walkways safe for the public during the down time.

 

 

Find yourself in a DCR State Park 

Join a DCR park interpreter to learn about the wonderful natural and cultural history of your state parks. All Programs are FREE and open to the public. Children must be accompanied by an adult. For program cancellations phone 978-937-2094 ext. 121, one hour before start time. Rain cancels. Bring water.  Strongly recommend sunscreen, bug repellant, a hat, sunglasses and footwear suitable for walking on the beach, and on paths.  For more information phone 781-656-1485 or email Matthew.Nash@state.ma.us.

Join the Boston and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) for an all new Impact Travel workshop!  Discover Belle Isle Marsh by taking part in a morning of mindfulness, reflection and art, and explore the connection between you and the local environment. Then over lunch participate in a facilitated discussion on how to become a more environmental and sustainable traveler! Recommended for adults and teens, but all ages are welcome. (Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult).

Please note that for the first one and one-half hours of this workshop (on site at Belle Isle Marsh) participants will not have access to public restrooms.  This event is FREE and open to the public! Light lunch will be served. However, space is limited so register soon to save your spot! Registration required.
