Massport Supports Summer Jobs for Winthrop Students:Annual Program Has given Local Students Opportunities since 1991

More than 80 Winthrop students earned a paycheck this summer, thanks to the Massachusetts Port Authority’s Community Summer Jobs Program. Now in its 27th year, Massport’s program supported 88 Winthrop high school and college students in summer jobs with community organizations.

This summer, 352 area high school and college students will earn a paycheck through our Community Summer Jobs Program. We are funding 88 summer jobs at the Winthrop Parks and Recreation Department and Community Action for Safe Alternatives (CASA). For many young people, these summer jobs marked the start of an educational path and a career.

Massport’s Community Summer Jobs Program is designed to help civic and social service agencies by providing funds to support youth employment in neighboring communities including: Charlestown, Chelsea, East Boston, Revere, South Boston, Winthrop, Bedford, Concord, Lexington, Lincoln and Worcester.

“Our Community Summer Jobs Program employs hundreds of hardworking students from communities that are important to Massport,” said Massport CEO Thomas P. Glynn. “The jobs give these young people a chance to earn an income and gain skills from hands-on experience in their communities.”

Participating organizations are responsible for recruiting, interviewing, hiring and supervising student employees. Since Massport’s Community Summer Jobs Program started in 1991, thousands of summer jobs have been funded providing local high school and college students with the opportunity to gain valuable job skills while serving their community.

The Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport) owns and operates Boston Logan International Airport, public terminals in the Port of Boston, Hanscom Field, and Worcester Regional Airport. Massport is a financially self-sustaining public authority whose premier transportation facilities generate more than $15 billion annually, and enhance and enable economic growth and vitality in New England.
