Winthrop Student Wins MWRA Writing Contest

MWRA is pleased to announce that Gabby Buonopane, a fifth-grader at the A.T. Cummings School, Winthrop, won Honorable Mention in MWRA’s Annual Writing Contest.

This year students were asked to design posters and write essays, poems or stories to show how people, plants and animals have benefited from the clean-up of Boston Harbor and its beaches. The MWRA received more than 3,000 posters and 900 writing entries. MWRA held a contest awards ceremony for the contest winners, their teachers and families on May 25, at the Deer Island Treatment Plant. Barbara Bishop, Aide to Speaker Robert A. DeLeo, attended the ceremony and presented Ms. Buonopane with a special citation.

Now through July 18, all the winning posters and writing entries are on display at the Waterworks Museum, 2450 Beacon St., Boston.
