We would be remiss if we failed to mention the wonderful tribute that was accorded Winthrop native Robert Donahue recently when Massport named its Fire-Rescue Headquarters at Logan Airport in his name.
Bob retired last year from his position as the Chief of Massport Fire-Rescue in which he had served for 15 years. Altogether, Bob served for 37 years with Massport.
During his tenure as the Chief, Bob was acknowledged throughout the country — indeed, throughout the world — for the initiatives that he spearheaded and implemented in the realm of fire and rescue at a major international airport.
The high regard in which Bob Donahue is held by his former colleagues and peers was attested to by the 600 persons who were on hand for the dedication ceremonies at Logan’s Fire-Rescue Headquarters.
Bob Donahue has been a credit to himself, his family, and the Town of Winthrop throughout his long career at Massport. From his humble beginnings in the family home on Townsend St., he has become an acknowledged world-wide expert in airport fire and rescue safety.
We know we join with all of our fellow residents in acknowledging this great honor that was bestowed on Bob — and we could not help but think of how proud his late Dad, Doug Donahue, who himself was an esteemed member of the Boston Police Department for many years, would have been of his son.
