The Impossible Dream

It was 50 years that the 1967 Boston Red Sox shocked the world of sports by winning the American League pennant after finishing in ninth place one year earlier. That team became known as “The Impossible Dream Team” with its array of stars including Carl Yastrzemski, who won the Triple Crown, “Gentleman” Jim Lonborg, who won the Cy Young Award, and Tony Conigliaro, who was emerging as a superstar, but whose career was forever changed by the events of Aug. 18, 1967 when he was hit by a  pitch.

The ’67 Sox lost the World Series in seven games to Bob Gibson and the St. Louis Cardinals. Many baseball fans believe that team, led by Yaz, started Boston’s love of Red Sox baseball that continues to this day with sellout crowds at Fenway Park.
