Ribbon Cutting Planned at EBNHC Building

The East Boston Neighborhood Health Center (EBNHC) is opening its new facility, “Winthrop Neighborhood Health” in the coming weeks.  EBNHC is holding a Ribbon Cutting event to celebrate the completion of the newly renovated building on Tuesday, August 16th from 10:00 to 11:00am.  Located at 17 Main Street in Winthrop, the new facility owned and operated by EBNHC will house a Family Medicine Primary Care Department as well as various specialty services including Dermatology, Podiatry, Ear Nose and Throat and an expanded Sports Medicine practice.  Boston Medical Center will also be offering both Physical and Occupational Therapy at the facility.  “We are excited to finally be opening after a long, but very successful renovation, said VP of Operations for the Health Center, Jeff Schuster.  “While we wait for the required permitting to conclude we will have an opportunity to show off the center at our Ribbon Cutting event as well as some open houses that are in the planning stages.  The facility came out incredible and we are looking forward to opening it to the community before we start seeing patients.”

The Family Medicine Practice will begin with one full-time and one part-time doctor and a full-time Nurse Practitioner, along with support staff.  EBNHC’s Chief Medical Officer, Jackie Fantes, said “initially as we open, our focus will be on seeing patients who are transferring their care from our East Boston Family Medicine location to Winthrop Neighborhood Health.  Then our focus will shift in growing the practice and seeing patients of all ages who want to receive Primary Care at the new facility.  Specialty Care will still require a referral from a primary care provider, but the move of Specialties to Winthrop will help us grow those services as well over time.”

The new building is in fact beautiful.  Clean, modern treatment rooms are nicely decorated with a nautical theme and some of the rooms have spectacular views of Winthrop Harbor.  Health Center CEO, Manny Lopes said, “I am really proud of how the building turned out, but more important than the building is the staff that will be working there.  Whether patients choose to use East Boston or the new Winthrop facility for their care, they will receive the best in quality patient care.  We are doing whatever we can to see our vision of healthy neighborhoods come to fruition and we are excited about expanding our services to meet the demand we are seeing and to continue with our mission in providing high quality health care to all regardless of ability to pay.”
