We want to add our congratulations to Winthrop Police officer and St. Mary’s High School boys basketball coach Dave Brown on leading his St. Mary’s team to the Division 4 state championship for the 2015-16 season. Winthrop High School basketball fans remember when Dave led the Vikings to the state title in 2011 and he has continued his success as coach at his alma mater, St. Mary’s of Lynn.
Dave is regarded as one of the top basketball coaches in all of Massachusetts who has the remarkable ability of bringing out the best in each player, whether a starter or a reserve.
Dave also teaches the fundamentals of basketball to youths in Lynn as the head coach of his son’s AAU basketball team. As you would expect, the AAU team is winning many games and Dave’s son, David Jr., is following in his father’s glorious footsteps on the basketball court.
Dave Brown’s state championship team in Winthrop will one day enter the WHS Hall of Fame, but we’re happy that Dave is still bringing joy and inspiring high school basketball players, including Winthrop’s own Tyler Devine, who was a senior on this year’s state championship team. In addition, Winthrop’s Rich Bianchino was a valuable assistant on the St. Mary’s staff.
