The Bay State Summer Games is Massachusetts’ own Olympic-style athletic competition that has annually been held since 1982. Each year the Summer Games features 7,000 athletes competing in 27 sports. Athletes or all ages
and abilities represent over 300 Massachusetts communities each year. The Summer Games annually take place during the month of July. The Summer Games consist of Showcase Sports, Individual Sports, and Team Sports. Tryouts for Showcase Sports are held during the month of June statewide. Finals for all Summer Games competitions are held in the Metro Boston and Central Massachusetts area.
This year two local Winthrop High School students tried out for a Bay State Summer Games baseball team, and were selected for one of the six Baseball teams that were formed. Cody Wasson and Brendan VanDalinda (picture), who are both entering their senior year at WHS this coming September, and who
both play on the WHS Varsity Baseball Team, were named to the Metro Team’s Roster.
The Baystate Showcase was held at Bentley University’s Robert DeFelice Baseball Field in Waltham on July 8th thru 12th, 2013. Of the six teams entered in the Showcase, the Metro Team placed 2nd, earning Wasson and VanDalinda Silver medals.
