Explorers Take Title

The Winthrop Police Explorers won the overall championship at the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Explorer Competition held in May at Mount Ida College in Newton.

Winthrop’s Police Explorers defeated eight other posts from Massachusetts, New York, and Connecticut.

There were nine competitions that included crime scene investigation, physical agility, career development, street crimes, first aid, operating under the influence investigation, suspicious activity response, and response to a reported felony assault.

Some of the highlights for the Winthrop team:

Explorer Captain Samantha Petersen scored first place in career development and operating under the influence investigation.
